SOR Staff Writer Gregg Snyder: Former RU LB gets New Deal
Mar 6, 2010 | By: Guest Blogger
Former Scarlet Knight Gary Brackett started his NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts and has remained a member of the team ever since. He was signed by the team as an undrafted rookie in 2003. Now a fan favorite, his new contract will likely keep him in Indianapolis for the remainder of his career.
The Colts defensive captain and the team agreed to a new five year deal that will keep him out of free agency. Brackett has been a major part of the Colts defense the past few years and Indianapolis management made it a priority to resign him this offseason.
The linebacker will be the highest paid Colt at that position in a decade. The deal is worth up to $33 million with $12 million guaranteed.
That money is considered to be well-deserved as Brackett has been the Colts starting middle linebacker the past five seasons. He has made at least 100 tackles in each of those five seasons. For his career, Brackett has 627 tackles, 11 interceptions, five forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.
This is just one of the latest examples of The Rutgers Scarlet Knights continuing to find great success in the National Football League.
